Pt.2

IF BATMAN WAS A BERRY

We think he’d be a blueberry. Did you know that Blueberries take the top spot in the antioxidant rankings, compared to other fruit & vegetables? It’s hands down the powerhouse and superhero of all berries (don’t tell the cranberries on us, please). In every one of those vibrant tasty balls of goodness, a punch is packed full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and a whole lot of flavour too.

If you’ve not heard us go on about it until now, here at Rapscallion we’re all about the raw and real and above all let our fruit do the talking. And it was a no brainer to create a soda that captured the true essence of this bad-ass berry - with all its greatness and its goodness, it’s the perfect partner to our unwavering commitment to absolutely nothing artificial - colours, concentrates or chemicals. We don’t call it our Berry Bad Boy soda just for shits and giggles.

Pt.3

TINY BUT MIGHTY

Let us break it down for you; they’re an excellent source of vitamin C which can boost the immune system and help with the absorption of iron. They contain iron, phosphorous, calcium, magnesium, manganese, zinc and vitamin K which all contribute to building and maintaining bone structure and strength. Studies have also shown that blueberries can help prevent Alzheimer’s, lower the risk of heart disease, boost brain power, combat high blood pressure and even stimulate hair growth. They’re linked to being anti-carcinogenic and their high soluble fibre content and detoxifying antioxidants are crucial for maintaining a healthy liver.

Gone a bit daft and had a 6th helping of Christmas dinner? Have a blueberry. Had one too many tipples and told your boss what you really thought of them at your work night out? A blueberry can help with that. Whilst we know Blueberries aren’t the answer to all of your or the world’s problems, we do know they have a whole lot of what is great and good within them. There’s a reason we carefully and meticulously extract all of that greatness and pop it into our dinky cans for you.

Pt.4

GLOBETROTTERS

The growing and production of blueberries and the Scottish harvest is unique and pretty special for a range of reasons from climate, elite varieties and variations and being hand-picked at only the exact moment of peak ripeness after a slow and steady growing period. Scottish blueberries have traditionally commanded a high price as they were ripe at a time of year when those produced in other countries were not ready for harvesting. But, you guessed it, new varieties are now grown in places such as Peru and South Africa, meaning that advantage has been challenged. And pair that with all the challenges that British Farming are facing from all sides, the unique Scottish blueberry is admittedly under threat. A lot of what you see now on the supermarket shelves are blueberries imported from sub-tropical countries like Peru and South Africa which have developed new genetics. They can be grown abroad at any time of the year, so this special season that Scotland has is under threat by a cheaper, quicker solution that in turn pays the damaging price with a hefty carbon footprint, a product that has travelled further than it needs to, and of course an impact and reduction in labour and jobs locally and therefore less return to the local community.

pt.5

TAKE IT ON THE CHIN

Here at Rapscallion, we’ve well and truly felt the effects of the multiple challenges that British Farming is experiencing. It affects supply and demand, production and delivery. Anyone else noticed how bloody wet and windy it is recently? Yep, that’s global warming for you and the Farmers here are feeling it tenfold. The unpredictability of a number of factors are wreaking havoc on everyone from start to finish. However, we’re stubborn and determined enough to still deliver only the best, premium product and every year we scour Scotland for not just the right berries but the right Farm too. We adapt and we evolve, and we promise that this dedication and commitment can be tasted in each and every one of our cans.

pt.6

UNIQUE & UNRIVALLED

Why settle for jet-setting berries when you can have the juiciest, freshest bad boys right on your doorstep?
That’s what we think anyway but don’t just take our word for it - you can taste it with every sip of our soda. Our blueberries are picked at their peak, delivering a burst of summer with every bite. We’ll be getting them from Castleton Farm in Aberdeenshire so no passport needed for these naughty nutritional nibbles. Castleton Farm has been on a fruity mission since 1992, and they’ve got the blueberry-growing game down to a science. Back in 2000, they went all out with some fancy polytunnels, and by 2005, they were among the first in blueberry plantation in Scotland. Thanks to their Northerly location and the long summer days and cooler climate, their blueberries ripen slowly and patience is paramount for sugar development, soaking up every bit of sunshine to develop that unmatchable sweetness. Mother Nature’s secret recipe for the perfect berry.

The Blueberry season and harvest in Scotland is still berry special and we’re all in on keeping it local as and whenever we can for all the reasons above. Good for you, good for the planet, and good for the next generation of blueberry (and soda) lovers.

We Love A Laugh
