Bright, light and buttery. A supercharged Scottish dessert without the need to toast a haggis. It’s our nod to tradition whilst giving it a helping hand towards modern times.

Sometimes, raspberries need a little companionship (don’t we all), and toasted oats provide the perfect late-night partner. This delightful match made in Scotland combination creates a refreshing and unique fizzy juice that celebrates the best of the looming Autumn flavours. It’s our wee blend of Summer and Autumn, packing a tasty punch.

SWEET SCOTTISH SMOOCH


Each year, as the warmth of summer fades and autumn settles in, we release our crowd-pleasing Cranachan seasonal soda. Not one to toot our own horn, but it’s got a Great Taste award too and we’re proud of it - it really is a taste explosion in a can and it’s been a labour of love and care getting it to where it is. It arrives around September, just as the weather begins to cool and we start that hunt for the biggest, baddest and shiniest conkers. This is the time when raspberries are in season in Scotland, if the weather’s been kind to us (2024 has not!). Summer is soon to be a distant memory, winter is yet to hit us in the chilly tootsies, and we find ourselves travelling across the countryside, from Rapscallion HQ over to bonny Fife.

THE BERRY HUNT

Our quest for the freshest, plumpest, and juiciest berries is a meticulous process. Raspberries are a funny bunch in that they do not ripen in the punnet. That means our timing must be impeccable when the farmers are ready to rock.

We select only the brightest and lightest raspberries, ensuring the highest quality for our soda. Picked at the height of the season for no nonsense taste. Once gathered, these precious berries are rushed home, rinsed, and plunged into freezing cold freshwater overnight. This shocking process convinces the fruit to release its bright aromas and natural taste — a bit like politely robbing a bank. Not that we’ve got any sort of robbery plans, don’t worry. They gently give up their goat whilst our team close up shop and get some rest, ready for Day Two.

CRAFTING THE ELIXIR

After capturing all the personality, colour, and depth of the fruit, we separate the liquid from the mulch and let it rest. But the process doesn't end there. We toast Scottish Gluten-Free Oats until they begin to brown, then toss them into our vibrant raspberry mixture. This step builds the complexity and depth of flavours, drawing out as much character from the ingredients as possible.

To enhance the flavour profile further, we add a touch of freshly zested lemon and a hint of star anise depending on their ripeness. These ingredients are whirlpooled together, marrying the layers of flavours into a stunning and powerful mix. The final product is a beverage that perfectly balances sweetness, tartness, and finishes with a little show-and-tell of anise dancing in the background.

The mixture is then filtered and carbonated with ice-cold Scottish freshwater, creating a crisp and refreshing soda. We pasteurise, label, and box up each can with love and devotion at our production HQt, ensuring that every sip is as much of a smooch-y experience as possible.
